Bread for the World: Offering of Letters

A Call to Faith in Action

As followers of Christ, we are called not only to care for those in need, but to work toward a world where no one is left hungry or forgotten. This weekend, our parish joins with Bread for the World in a powerful act of advocacy through the Offering of Letters —a simple yet meaningful way to live out our faith.

The United States Congress is currently reviewing and negotiating legislation for the Farm Bill , a critical piece of policy that impacts food security, agriculture, and support for families both here at home and around the world. Over the next two weeks, our Social Justice Commission invites you to take part in this effort by writing to our elected leaders.

Through the Offering of Letters, we are asking Congress to:

Restore, protect, and strengthen U.S. nutrition programs , including SNAP and WIC, which help families put food on the table—including over 103,000 children in Iowa.
Fully fund and strengthen global food, health, and development programs that promote human dignity and help build a safer, more stable world.
Pass a strong, bipartisan Farm Bill that supports farmers, strengthens communities, and works toward ending hunger both domestically and globally.

This effort is rooted in our Catholic call to uphold the dignity of every person and to care for those most vulnerable. Hunger is not simply an issue of food—it is an issue of justice, compassion, and human dignity.

Participating is simple. You can send a letter online using the QR code available on postcards, or write a paper letter provided in the Gathering Space and at the Welcome Table. Each letter becomes part of a collective voice—one that reminds our leaders that people of faith care deeply about ensuring that there is a place at the table for everyone.

Your voice matters. Your action matters.

Together, through prayer, service, and advocacy, we can help build a world where no one goes hungry—a world that reflects the love and justice of Christ.

Meals from the Heart Ministry

In times of need, even the simplest acts of care can make a powerful difference. The Meals from the Heart Ministry at St. Thomas More is here to support individuals and families during life’s challenging or transitional moments.

Whether you are welcoming a new baby, grieving the loss of a loved one, recovering from illness, surgery, or hospitalization, our volunteers are ready to provide home-cooked meals and compassionate support.

This ministry is a beautiful way our parish lives out the Gospel—caring for one another with love, kindness, and generosity.

Catholic Worker House Meals

Serve with Love. Share a Meal. Be Christ to Others.

St. Thomas More parishioners have the beautiful opportunity to serve meals at the Catholic Worker House , offering nourishment, hospitality, and dignity to our brothers and sisters in need.

This ministry is more than preparing food — it is an encounter with Christ. When we serve, we live out the Gospel call to feed the hungry, welcome the stranger, and love without condition.

“For I was hungry and you gave me food…” – Matthew 25:35

What We Do

Volunteers help by:

Preparing or donating food
Serving meals
Cleaning up after the meal
Offering kindness and conversation

Families, individuals, teens, and small groups are welcome to participate. This is a wonderful opportunity for families to serve together.
