STM CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

Dear STM parish members:

    Greetings and blessings to you!

As we thank God for the freedoms we enjoy and pray that our nation may persevere in peace, I also pray that you find time for blessed renewal over the holiday weekend.

We are happy to report that we are nearing the completion of our church construction project. To help our contractors stay on target for the August 24 church dedication, we are asking parish members to be flexible with our worship schedule and location over the next few weeks.

  1. There will be no daily Mass this coming week. Daily 9 a.m. Mass will resume on Monday, July 15, in the lower level of the church.
  2. Weekend Masses on July 12 and 13 will be held in the air-conditioned High School Gymnasium at Regina Catholic High School, 2150 Rochester Ave. in Iowa City.
    • Saturday: 5:15 p.m.
    • Sunday: 8:00, 10:15, and 11:30 a.m.

We are grateful to Regina for accommodating us and to all of you for your understanding. We may need to extend Masses at Regina another weekend or two, so please stay tuned to our website and Facebook page for updates.

The exciting part of all this is that it means we are getting close! As announced in last weekend’s bulletin, we have reached this stage of construction without borrowing any money, thanks to your great generosity. However, the time has now come when we must borrow to complete the project. For new members and those who have not yet pledged or contributed, every gift we receive from this point forward helps us reduce the amount we need to borrow—and the interest we’ll have to pay. We are grateful to all our donors, no matter the size of the gift.

Finally, please continue to keep our parish and this construction process in your prayers. These weeks can be a bit stressful, and I am so grateful for your flexibility and understanding. We are truly in this together, and your kindness is deeply appreciated.

Praying for God’s blessings upon you and your loved ones during these summer months.

Fr. Chuck

  • Social Justice – Advocating for dignity, compassion, and the works of mercy locally and globally.

    • Subcommission: STM Racial Equity Team – Working to promote equity, inclusion, and justice rooted in Catholic Social Teaching.

  • Welcome – Making sure everyone who enters our doors knows they belong here.

  • Worship & Spirituality – Enriching our liturgical life and creating opportunities for deeper prayer and spiritual renewal.

  • Art & Environment – Helping create sacred spaces that reflect the beauty and meaning of the liturgical seasons.
