Toiletry Drive

The STM Social Justice Commission will be conducting its fourth annual toiletry drive the weekend of January 19/20 for Shelter House, Johnson County’s only general use homeless shelter providing transition shelter to men, women, and children including the disabled and the elderly.  We especially need body wash, bar soaps, Kleenex, toilet paper, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, toothbrushes, hand sanitizer, razors, over the counter medications, and cough drops.  A complete list of other needs (including winter coats, coffee filters, ground coffee, and microwavable non-perishable food) can be found at https://shelterhouseiowa.org/greatest-needs.  Over the past year, Shelter House provided shelter to over 870 men, women, and children (16% of the total).  65% of adults were employed upon departure.  An additional 150 people were sheltered in the Winter Emergency overflow facility.  Our toiletry donations will be used directly by those most in need.

If you are unable to donate or wish to help in other ways, please consider being a front desk volunteer, a job labs coach, or a kitchen volunteer.  Contact Mark Ray at markdavray@gmail.com for additional information.
