Care for Creation & Meskwaki Powwow Pilgrimage
A Jubilee Year Pilgrimage of Hope | August 7–10, 2025
As a prelude to the Season of Creation (September 1–October 4), the St. Thomas More Social Justice Commission invites all parishioners to join a Jubilee Year Pilgrimage of Hope to the Meskwaki Red Earth Nation Powwow near Tama, Iowa.
This vibrant four-day event (August 7–10) is a celebration of Meskwaki history, traditions, and spiritual connection to the Earth and Creator. Each day honors a special theme—Children, Seniors, Veterans, and Special Events—with grand entries at 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. daily.
The Meskwaki Settlement spans over 8,600 acres and is home to sacred efforts in land stewardship, river conservation, and cultural preservation.
We encourage attendance on any day, but we will organize a carpool on Sunday, August 10 following the 10:15 a.m. Mass for those wishing to attend the afternoon festivities together.
If you’d like to carpool, please email jaygilchrist@gmail.com.

Let’s take this opportunity to honor creation, deepen cultural understanding, and stand in solidarity with Indigenous communities who model care for our common home.
